Rationale:
The AUSD Team has been testing and researching security camera systems in order to meet security priorities. These priorities include: who is on campus/facial recognition, forensics to help with site issues/vandalism, a deterrent to crime, preventative (alerts/motion detection), coverage of high-risk areas, increased coverage, 1080p or higher quality per camera, easy to manage for principals, security, and technology staff. The surveillance project was broken into phases: Phase one - perimeter coverage Phase two - access control Phase three - blindspot coverage This contract is for phase three. Blindspot coverage will include surveillance of exterior walkways between buildings, multi purpose rooms, and entry points in front offices. The hardware, software, and 10-year licensing on the cameras will cost $539,128. This includes $114,681 in savings extended from Verkada and aggressively discounted pricing from the partner company Safe and Sound, which will broker the purchase. There will also be expected savings in technology staff time for maintaining the camera servers as well as the costs associated with replacing the camera servers.
Budgetary Impact:
The cost, not to exceed $539,128, will be paid from the Capital Facilities Fund.
Recommendation:
It is recommended the Board of Education approve contract between AUSD and Safe and Sound Security.
