Rationale: As part of the School Reorganization process, the Board of Education decided that Azusa High School needed to change its mascot and that a committee, with the help of an outside facilitator, needed to come together for the purposes of deciding a new mascot. With the help of our facilitator, Dr. Jessica Wong, a committee representing students, parents, staff, alumni, and representatives of the indigenous community came together. Over the course of four meetings, the committee decided that the new mascot for Azusa High School Aztecs would be a Jaguar. A design firm was asked to create mascot/logo options for the new Jaguar and at the Board of Education where the options were presented, the Board of Education decided that 8th-12th grade students would decide the new mascot/logo. 8th-12th grade students were asked for feedback on the new mascot/logo options, that feedback was provided to the design firm, which then came up with revised mascot/logo options. The students then went through two rounds of voting.
