Agreement between AUSD and ECS.pdf
Rationale: When students miss school, both excused and unexcused, the impact is lost instructional time. All students benefit from additional instructional time, differentiated and extended learning opportunities, and the opportunity to build a deeper relationship with their school. Partnering with ECS to implement a Saturday Extended Learning opportunity for students will provide additional academics for students, offer enrichment opportunities, recover lost instructional time, and recover lost Average Daily Attendance (ADA) revenue for our District. Education Code allows school districts to recover all day absences through a four hour (240 minutes) Saturday instructional program. Students will be positively engaged; they will be in a safe environment; they will be offered a meal; and the program will be funded out of the ADA revenue that is recovered. Teachers will be provided the opportunity to enhance student learning through interactive, differentiated learning options.

The District will pay ECS $8.00 per student per session for each student that has a recoverable absence and attends the Academic Attendance Recovery Coordinated Program (AARC). For the purposes of payment herein, attendance shall be determined at the time roll is taken at each session.

AUSD worked with ECS in the 2018-2019 school year.
Budgetary Impact: The cost will be covered through ADA recovery.
Recommendation: It is recommended the Board of Education approve the agreement between AUSD and ECS.
