Rationale:
|
Jaime Escalante began his Accelerated Math Program at Garfield High School in 1974, then brought his teaching methods to East Los Angeles College in 1983. The Jaime Escalante Math Program has operated at East Los Angeles College for more than 30 years and partners with Southern California high schools to transform math achievement for students. The Jaime Escalante Math Program will provide coordinated collaboration between the Jaime Escalante Math Program and Azusa and Gladstone High Schools to successfully align curriculum support for Pre-Calculus and Integrated 3 mathematics classes; and, provide an additional instructor for virtual after school Escalante Pre-Calculus and Integrated Mathematics 3 courses in the fall and spring semester for an average of 4.5 hours per week. This is our second year working with this program.

Budgetary Impact:
|
The cost will not exceed $4,000 for student workbook materials and will be paid from supplemental and concentration funding.
|

Recommendation:
|
It is recommended the Board of Education approve the MOU between AUSD and Jaime Escalante Math Program.
